Trend Alert: Safari Chic
Friday, February 29th, 2008
From the designers at fashion week to the clothes at your favorite stores, safari style is hot! Intense prints and “urban jungle” looks were all over the runway, but they can be difficult to wear in real life. Why not trust your animal instincts, and opt for jungle jewelry instead? We suggest choosing a military cut jacket, a pair of dark rinse jeans, and a punchy pastel top for your wardrobe basics, and then go wild with accessories!
This year’s interpretation of the look features a wider palette of prints, adding giraffe, tiger, and zebra patterns to the usual leopard and cheetah spots. There’s also a medley of Bollywood inspired fabrics and styles, which add vibrance to the new neutrals of 2008. A glossy sheen over olive and khaki pieces brings light to classic colors, and accents like sash belts and button up sleeves add extra oomph to any outfit. The essential clothing item of the season has to be the ’70s-esque pantsuit, which is shortened and paired with heels for ’08.
If you’re not quite ready to sport a one piece safari “romper” suit, never fear – you can satisfy your craving for couture with wild style jewelry! Why trek through the jungle (or the crowds at the mall) when you can shop at Emitations? A stack of funky jungle bangles or a glam giraffe print cocktail ring is just what you need to add some kick to those khakis!
