Some fashions last long enough to defy the label of trend, and instead turn into iconic pieces. Such is the case with the bangle bracelet! This basic jewelry item has survived nearly every fashion wave throughout history, and today they’re hotter than ever before.

The ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Hebrews, and Romans wore bangle bracelets, mainly as status symbols, tokens of religious devotion, or as part of their warrior uniforms. Mentions of silver and gold jewelry – bracelets in particular – are scattered throughout the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. More recently, bangles have popped up in the fashion history of the 19th and 20th century.

In the 1920s, sparkling art deco jewelry was all the rage, and bangle bracelets fit right in! The 40s forced women and jewelers alike to get creative, as precious metals were needed to support the war efforts. Slim bangles dominated the fashion scene in those times. In the 50s, though, women were ready to indulge! Bangles in all shapes and sizes rolled off newly formed assembly lines. The 60s and 70s brought us huge stacks of wire thin bangles, and the 80s offered chunky, funky, neon colored bangle bracelets that were made to be noticed.

From the 1990s through today, bangles have evolved in many ways. The basic shape, however, remains true. From stacks of thick gold hip-hop inspired bangles, to bohemian inspired textured bangles, stylish celebs know that bangle bracelets are still all the rage. It’s all about survival of the hippest!

Today’s hottest trend setting celebrities may have found the secret to luck – clover jewelry! Our favorite leading ladies of fashion, movies, and music have all been spotted in layered clover necklaces, and they’ve all been extra lucky in life recently. Coincedence, or fortunate fashion? Paris Hilton can be described in many ways, but most of us wouldn’t have considered the ultra-rich heiress to be down on her luck. Until, of course, her much publicized stint in jail last year! Even before that, she wasn’t doing so well with the men in her life – there’s been cheating, catfights, messy breakups, and private moments gone publish in recent years. Her movies and songs haven’t been the most successful, either, but Paris seems to take it all in stride. We don’t want to jinx her recent streak of good luck, but we have to dish on her newest arm candy. Could there possibly be real love between her and Good Charlotte frontman Benji Madden? As with her past loves, only time will tell. Still, things are definitely better than this time last year!

Reese Witherspoon is one of Hollywood’s highest paid actresses, but she has her share of problems just like the rest of us. Several years ago, her and hubby Ryan Phillipe seemed to be on top of the world. They made parenting a priority, and yet Reese still found the time to star in a string of blockbuster films. After winning an Oscar for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in the 2005 bio-pic Walk the Line, Reese was at an all time high. Shortly thereafter, though, Hollywood’s golden couple went through a messy divorce. Reese was conspicuously single for quite a while afterwards, but now she’s nothing but smiles when out with her new man Jake Gylenhall. He only recently got to meet the kiddies, which makes us think it’s serious!

Mariah Carey has had incredible success since first taking the mike in the early 1990s, but she was in a bit of a slump a few years back. Since then (perhaps since donning her clover necklace and earrings?) she has come back with a bang, going around the world with her most successful tour to date. Her last album, The Emancipation of Mimi, was the number one seller in the US for 2005, and it won multiple Grammy Awards. Now, Mariah is completing work on her newest album, E=MC², and she has her own fragrance line. Things are looking up for Miss MC!
