The biggest news story of the day – not just gossip but real news too – appears to be the status of Angelina Jolie’s labor and delivery. Jolie’s obstetrician, Dr. Michel Sussmann held a press conference today where he announced…basically nothing. JustJared reports:

Sussman shared the news with media at the Lenval Hospital in Nice, southern France on Wednesday. He said, “[Angelina’s] hospitalization at this stage of her pregnancy is strictly normal for someone who underwent a caesarean in her first pregnancy.”

Asked when Angie is expected to have her twins, he replied, “This is something you can’t program, you never know for sure. I can’t give you a date. Let’s say the birth will happen in the weeks to come.”

Sussman added, “Everything is normal. She is very well, and she’s okay. She will stay in the hospital until the birth. I will stay with her. … Brad and Angelina want everyone to know that everything is going well.”

Are we going to be subjected to hourly reports about the state of Angie’s uterus? Honestly, we’re anxious to see the kids as much as anyone else, but we don’t need to hear much more until they’re actually breathing fresh air, ya know? The OB-GYN town crier thing is gonna get real old, real fast.

All that being said, good luck and best wishes to the entire family. There’s obviously plenty of love in that home, so those twins will receive quite the warm welcome once they make their appearance.

Ashlee Simpson, who at 4 months looks twice as pregnant as Nicole Kidman, was spotted shopping for baby gear. The new rumor is that she’s having a boy, based on the items purchased at Petit Tresor baby boutique. Thing is, this is the same store that Tom Cruise is upset with for sharing personal info about Katie Holmes. So maybe Ashlee knew the details would leak? We’re not sure about the boy vs girl issue, but with all the new celebrity babies, we’re gonna need some more boys to balance things out. So far the only one is Christina Aguilera’s little guy!

We can just see the next generation of young Hollywood once they’re old enough to hit the clubs…Max Liron (Aguilera’s son) will be dancing with Harlow Kate (Nicole Richie’s daughter), Maddie Briann (Jamie Lynn’s daughter), the Jolie-Pitt twins (IslAmelie, as we like to call them, AKA Isla Marcheline and Amelie Jane), Honor Marie (Jessica Alba’s daughter), and Nahla Ariela (Halle Berry’s daughter). The older set has a few more boys – Kingston Rossdale, Pax and Maddox Jolie-Pitt, Sean Preston and Jayden James Spears Federline, and Baron William Trump…but you still have to factor in Shiloh and Zahara Jolie-Pitt, Dannielynn Smith (Anna Nicole’s daughter), Suri Cruise, and Valentina (Salma Hayek’s daughter) as well.

Can you imagine all of those celebs meeting to pick up their kids from daycare? It would be pure chaos!

The French magazine Closer broke news this morning that Angelina Jolie was thisclose to introducing the new twins to the world. First they said she was in labor, but then they provided the following statement to Perez Hilton:

“Angelina Jolie will give birth in the following days. This morning we informed you that Angelina Jolie was supposedly giving birth.The actress is actually under observation at Lanval hospital in Nice. She was admitted on sunday afternoon and should remain there until she gives birth of her twins. She is to be due in the upcoming days.”

The Associated Press has confirmed the news, and we trust them a whole heck of a lot more than Entertainment Tonight. ET still hasn’t admitted that they were wrong about the original Angie in labor rumor, so maybe now they’ll just try to say they were really, really ahead of the game?

According to David Hauslaib’s Jossip, Jamie Lynn is getting speared by Star because baby pics of daughter Maddie Briann were promised to a different magazine. Here’s the cover and direct quote from Star…please note that this story may not have any basis in reality whatsoever:

“The baby’s heart rate dropped every time she tried to push,” a family insider tells Star. “They did an ultrasound and quickly discovered that the umbilical cord was too short.” But despite the doctors’ dire warnings, the 17-year-old “was adamant about having a natural delivery.”

Everyone in the room at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb, Miss., pleaded with Jamie Lynn to listen to the doctors — including big sister Britney. Brit had already been with Jamie Lynn for hours, massaging her back as she endured painful contractions. “But she got mad,” says the insider. She told Jamie Lynn to “just have a damn Caesarian,” as she did. “Britney then ran out in tears because she couldn’t bear to see what was happening.”

The girls mother, Lynne, only added to the tension. “Lynne was already angry because her daughter didn’t want her in the delivery room at all,” says the source. “But she had insisted on being there, along with Casey Aldridge, Jamie Lynn’s boyfriend. Jamie Lynn cussed and yelled at her mom, and told her to get out. She cursed Lynne for bringing her into the world to bear such pain.”

Mama Lynn Spears brokered a $1 million deal with US Weekly prior to the birth, but pics were leaked from Jamie Lynn’s Myspace page earlier this week. At this point who knows what to believe? For more details, check newsstands for the latest issue of Star magazine…

UPDATE: A report by E!’s Ted Casablanca that Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are considering breaking up is “100% completely fabricated,” Garner’s rep tells Usmagazine.com.

Ted Casablanca, uuber-gossip king of E! Online’s The Awful Truth, reports that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner might be breaking up. NOOOO! Those two (and little Violet, of course) seem so happy and real, and we can’t stand to think that it isn’t working out. This is even more traumatizing then when Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston got divorced! Casablanca noted that the rumor hadn’t been confirmed, but Affleck’s team was quick to retort:

“We usually don’t comment on stuff like this,” shot Camp Affleck. “But you should know sources are liars. If you guys want to do the right thing, you won’t post that item. It’s all BS.”

Casablanca fired back, though, with his own take on the matter:

“Really? Interesting, as it’s from the same bull-pooping peeps who originally told me Ms. G was moving from Vartan to Affleck, the fickle little femme.”

We have no idea what to think!

TMZ caught Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony while on vacation in Spain – and Marc looks downright emaciated! JLo is, of course, looking fierce and fit just three months after having the twins. But Marc is all skin and bones….we hope he isn’t sick?

Hollywood Ecstacy reports that images of Jamie Lynn Spears’ new baby girl, Maddie Briann, were leaked from her Myspace page! The blog posted this virtual scrapbook page, along with some of Jamie-Lynn’s (supposed?) blogs and bulletins:

We have our suspicions, because there has been some debate about the spelling of the name. Some say Maddie BrIann, some say Maddie BrYann. But US magazine says Maddie Briann, so we suppose that is likely correct.

On one hand, we feel bad if her personal pictures were stolen. On the other hand – once something is posted online, it’s basically fair game. It’s unfortunate that celebrities can’t use Myspace to share private photos with friends and family, but that’s how the business works these days.

Earlier this month, in fact, the Silicon Valley based blog Valleywag posted images acquired from Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan’s private Myspace albums. Apparently Yahoo’s integration with Myspace made an easy loophole that allows (allowed?) folks to use a widget to get access to any pics, even if the profile is private. There were some pretty racy pictures, but we chose not to include them!

Per JJsDirt, Jamie Lynn Spears and Casey Aldrige welcomed a healthy newborn baby girl into the world early this morning!

UPDATE: PerezHilton reports that the baby is named Maddie Briann! The Spears’ family likes to mix and match names, but we’re not sure how they came up with this one. Maybe Casey’s parents?

Jamie Lynn was scheduled for a C-section today at Mississippi Southwest Regional Medical Center, and big sister Britney was in town for the excitement. Supposedly the family hasn’t been together since Jamie Lynn’s baby shower last month, which OK! magazine captured in the picture below. Is Brit jealous that Jamie Lynn has a girl? Will mom-ager Lynn Spears try to direct this child into the spotlight as well? For now, we’re sure everyone is just feeling grateful and blessed for the new arrival!
