No Emmy for Izzie in ‘08
Friday, June 13th, 2008Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl has opted to pull her hat from the Emmy ring, but it isn’t because she already has an Emmy under her belt. Heigl offered the following incendiary quote as explanation:
“I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization” and “in addition, I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials.” So, basically, Katherine is saying that the Grey’s writers didn’t provide her with quality scenes that would allow her to showcase her skills.

This comes from a woman who won the Emmy last year, for performing in scenes that were created by the same writers. Add in the writer’s strike, and Katherine’s tendency to bite the hand that feeds her…and all we can say is that (as TMZ.com noted) Katherine needs to get off her “Heigl horse”!
Let’s recap – she trash talked her first successful movie in Vanity Fair magazine, when she said that Knocked Up “paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight.” She blasted the announcer at last year’s Emmy awards for pronouncing her name wrong, she was caught on video literally yanking BFF T.R. Knight away from adoring fans (jealous that she wasn’t in the spotlight for once, perhaps?), and now there’s this Emmy nonsense.

Insiders at Grey’s Anatomy were quick to label the affront as a”slap in the face”. Entertainment Weekly got the full response, where a source explains that “the show bent over backwards to accommodate her film schedule, and then she criticizes the show for lack of material? It’s an ungrateful slap in the face to the very writers responsible for her Emmy win in the first place.” We agree, 100%! That being said, the girl has some serious style that we still want to emulate…
