Recently, fashion forward singer Katy Perry wore a controversial item – a “swine flu” flying pig cocktail ring. Here at Emitations, we’ve had Fern the Flying Pig Cocktail Ring for years, but we never imagined that she would end up associated with a deadly virus! Katy used her blog to explain why she bought the ring, and to show off a picture:

“since swine flu is super trendy I wanted to make sure I was in style with my swine flu ring! I got this one in Miami at Big Drop the other day… a flying piggy. Perfect. Kitty Purry was telling me the other night that she remembers when bird flu was in and now pig flu is cool and she wonders when kitty flu is gonna hit, as she would like to be more popular than she currently already is… fame whore. Also one of my best friends Shannon found the official swine flu song… you might feel sick after hearing it. Get better everyone!”

Katy’s blog entry – and the subsequent celebrity gossip blogs that posted the story – have all had a mixed bag of responses. Some people applaud her for making light of an issue that the media has blown way out of proportion. Others are shocked and outraged that Katy joked about something which recently claimed the life of an infant. What is your take on the matter? “As for their relationship, it looks like McCoy bought her the diamond ring – but only as a “promise” – that she wears on her middle finger. He even adds “and I have one too!” His is a silver band with the name “Katy” engraved on it. He continues, “I went in [the jewelry store] and said I wanted a ring. The lady behind the counter said ‘here’s one for $300.’ I was like, ‘I want a nice ring!’ Then I pointed to the big one.” McCoy adds he was “so scared to give it” to her, but luckily “she was so excited! And I’d set up flowers everywhere.”

Granted, this sort of gift is generally for the high school and college crowd – but that’s awfully sweet nonetheless! Last year, Gym Class Heroes had a major hit with their song “Cupid’s Chokehold”. Could those lyrics be about Katy? Read on and decide for yourself…
