On June 14, Jay Leno decided to play a little trick on America’s favorite voluptuous reality star, Kim Kardashian.  Since Kris Humphries’ fairytale proposal to Kim, there’s been a lot of speculation regarding whether or not the estimated $2 million stunner is real.  Jay Leno deviously decided to put this to the test by convincing Kim to light the 20.5 carat rock on fire.

The bubbly Kim showed off her new shorter locks while wearing a brightly-hued purple dress on the show, but was no longer smiles when Jay began to convince her to hand over the ring.  Nervously, Kim asked if he could sign a contract that he would pay for the insurance if something happened to the jewelry.

Jay responded that if the ring did contain a real diamond, nothing would happen to it. But if the ring were to catch on fire, it was cubic zirconia. And Kris Humphries “has something to explain” to her.

Kim hesitantly handed over the ring as a gasping audience watched Jay place the ring and light it.  Whether Kim’s ring is fake or not is not revealed.  But Kim did tweet as soon as the show was over: “OMG u will NOT believe what Jay Leno did to my ring tonight on the show!!!! I almost cried! LOL.”

The Kardashian family is no stranger to stunning style, and the middle sister is famous for more than her voluptuous rear end. Last week, 30 year old Kim Kardashian accepted a whopping 20.5 carat diamond engagement ring from her basketball beau of 6 months.

So what does Kim think of her new diamond duds? “In high school I went to Macy’s and bought this fake ring, my ‘perfect’ ring, and this is almost the exact same,” she says about the gem fiancé Kris Humphries designed with jeweler to the stars Lorraine Schwartz. The groom-to-be let the expert handle the majority of the design elements, and had only one simple request, “I just knew I wanted it to be big!” he said. Well, mission accomplished!

Kim Kardashian’s Engagement Ring is nothing short of spectacular. She gushed, “It’s the most beautiful thing I have ever seen,” of the emerald cut ring. “It’s perfect.” The 16.5 carat emerald cut center stone is flanked by a pair of unique 2 carat trapezoid diamonds, for a TCW of 20.5 carats! Reality TV star Kim Kardashian has  picked out her man and her diamond band!

E! News reports that Kim and the entire Kardashian family went on a shopping trip to scout out potential diamond engagement rings. Her boyfriend Reggie Bush (of the New Orleans Saints) hasn’t popped the question yet, but Kim is preparing in advance! She told reporters:

“He definitely knows all of us went ring shopping. I definitely scared him and told him it was probably way more expensive than it is, just so that when he goes he feels like he’s getting a good deal. He knows what it looks like. I think I’ve emailed him enough pictures!”

Kim‘s friends and family have mentioned that she picked out something that was “only $20 million”…presumably a drop in the bucket for an NFL star? Seems like a whole lot of money – and bling! – to us, but Kim has always appreciated the finer fashions.

The past few years have produced a crime wave that celebs don’t like – their jewelry is being stolen! It all started back in ’06, when Lindsay Lohan was at the airport. She noticed that her expensive designer purse was missing, along with all of her personal possessions. The items were worth over $1,000,000 – including (per the police) “a quantity of jewelry”. Unfortunately, Lindsay’s bad luck didn’t inspire other celebs to take extra precautions…

Near the end of 2007, reality starlet Kim Kardashian was also a victim of airport theft. Over $50,000 worth of jewelry was stolen, along with Kim’s camera and laptop computer. Apparently, the items were lifted while Kim was signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans. The crime spree didn’t end in ’07 though – it continued on through 2009!

December of ’08 was a bad month for celebrity jewelry owners, but a great month for thieves. First, Paris Hilton had over $2 million dollars of jewelry stolen from her mansion in Los Angeles. Police reports note that the theft occurred while Paris was out partying, but that doesn’t seemed to have slowed down her lifestyle much. Paris later pleaded to the public via the media, begging the intruder to return her valued possessions. As you might guess, this didn’t prove effective.

Not even two weeks later, Queen Latifah was robbed of her jewelry! Over $10,000 worth of jewelry was stolen while the Queen was staying at a luxury villa in Tobago. The accommodations alone cost $1,000 per night, so the singer/model/actress must have been out a considerable amount altogether. Local newspapers reported that two gold rings, a gold necklace, and a silver ring were among the items stolen.

Our final story of celebrity jewelry theft is particularly unfortunate. While at a show in the UK, the rapper Coolio (of former “Gangsta’s Paradise” fame) wanted to connect with the crowd. He lept into the audience, assuming they would carry him around the mosh pit. Instead, Coolio nearly crushed a girl when he fell to the ground. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the students at the show then proceeded to mob the man! Coolio’s watch, jewelry, shoes, glasses, and even bandanna were stolen that night. Luckily, security pulled him from the masses before any physical injuries occurred.

What’s the moral of this story? Celebrities and regular folks alike, lock up that jewelry! We suggest storing items of monetary and/or sentimental value in a fireproof safety deposit box, and rocking CZ jewelry while you’re out and about.
