Prom Trends 2009: Prom Dresses & Prom Jewelry
Prom 2009 is all about breaking the rules! Prom jewelry choices are better (and blingier) than ever, with styles ranging from moody blue jewelry sets to goddess-worthy cuff bracelets. Florals are HOT for ‘09, and prom flower rings are all the rage. Flower bracelets, flower hair accessories, and flower necklaces are also huge this year. Snake necklaces and animal cocktail rings are also a big hit, because they go perfectly with this season’s safari chic styles. Use the prom 2009 cheat sheet below to decide on a look, then add the best prom jewelry accessories to take the look from fancy to high fashion!
Poufy ballgowns and princess dresses are out, and gowns are either going super short or super chic. Flirty dresses are definitely in, from mini to tea length. These new short skirt looks are accented by ruffles, bows, sashes, and prints – everything from garden glam floral designs to wild style animal prints! Sweet, tiny patterns and bold, graphic prints are the best way to wear flower fashion dresses. Go retro with a ’20s inspired flapper dress, or go all out with an ’80s style mini dress (add a huge bow or zap of neon color to truly capture the era).
If you’re not into the sassy short styles, what about some old Hollywood glamour? Red carpet inspired dresses are perfect for that sexy sophisticate look. Asymmetrical cuts, open back designs, and flowing Grecian gowns in whites, blacks, and metallics are the best way to show off these ultra-glam styles. The best way to determine if a dress is worthy of prom 2009 – try to picture Angelina Jolie, Katy Perry, Scarlett Johansson, or Vanessa Hudgens wearing it. Between those four celebs you get the full range of perfect prom fashions!
These styles were made for bright hues, so don’t be afraid to go for bold summer shades. Lemonade yellows, ocean inspired turquoises, popsicle purples, cherry reds, juicy oranges, and strawberry pinks are all great choices for prom dresses in 2009! Compliment these crayon color gowns with juicy candy cocktail rings in brilliant pinks and purples. Also, designers have been showing off tons of blue dresses in their new prom 2009 collections. Get ahead of the trend with a gown in any rich shade, from cerulean to indigo.
Don’t forget to add some flower jewelry – prom flower rings are hot, hot, hot! You can wear a cocktail ring as your prom flower ring - try our Sex and the City Inspired Samantha’s Flower Cocktail Ring! The two finger design is very fashion forward, plus all your friends will be jealous of your movie bling style. The best part is that the adjustable ring is available in three sizes, to fit petite to plus size. What’s not to love?! We also have subtle cluster flower stud earrings, and the perfect flower bracelets for your vivid look. Try our Denise’s Bold Flower Stretch Bracelet in black or pink, or our top rated Brynn’s Turquoise & Faux Pearl Bracelet.
Safari chic jewelry is the perfect compliment to the fresh and fun dresses and ‘dos we’re going to see at prom 2009. Our Manny’s Safari & Citrine Hued CZ Cocktail Ring has the best of both worlds, with a glam giraffe print and a citrusy citrine center stone! You can go even more extreme with a twisty metal snake necklace, like Nyah’s Snake Coil Necklace, or walk like an Egyptian with Kirsten’s Coiled Snake Earrings. They’re both oh-so Cleopatra couture! Our other flexible metal necklaces can be knotted or twisted to make hundreds of unique styles, so check our Ember’s Metal Snake Necklaces too. If you’re rocking a Grecian goddess style dress, try our Daila’s Flower Cuff Bracelets, available in silver and gold tones.
Show of those ankles and gams by adding an anklet – it will pull your look together from top to bottom. Emitations suggests that you try our glam CZs by the Yard Anklet, or rock the fiesty Verdie’s Handcuff Anklet! If you’re wearing open toed shoes, consider a toe ring for just a touch of bling to sparkle on the dance floor. Lyra’s Pave Star Toe Ring is adjustable and just shimmery enough to be prom appropriate. Prom dresses in 2009 won’t just be showing off legs – backs will be left bare for a sexy, summery look. Make sure you’re accessorized from every angle with an ultra-long layered necklace. Have the layers hanging down in the back for a red hot red carpet look.
Finally, don’t forget the final touch – a prom purse! From metallic snake print clutches to primary color envelope purses, and designer inspired quilted purses to punk rock wristlets, we have the perfect prom purses for you! No matter which prom 2009 trend you decide on for dressing up, you’re sure to be the belle of the ball when you wear prom jewelry from Emitations. Just remember, this year the Disney inspired dresses are out, and the daring dresses are in!

Ruffles are so in! I just bought a dress with ruffles. Its fun, flirty, it also came in about 4 different colors and it didn’t break my wallet.
