Inspired by Titanic: Heart of the Ocean Necklace

The Titanic “Heart of the Ocean” necklace is an infamous piece of modern movie history – few such fictional jewelry items have inspired such a following!  Admit it – when you watched Titanic, you wished you could wear the stunning blue diamond heart necklace that Leo gave to Kate. Everyone at Emitations sure did! James Cameron’s Titanic broke box office records, and the intense love story between stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet broke our hearts. The real Heart of the Ocean necklace would also break the bank, so Emitations is pleased to present our Replica “Heart of the Ocean” Necklace Inspired by Titanic!

Thanks to your customer requests, we just had to find a faux Le Cœur de la Mer (Heart of the Ocean) necklace. This gorgeous replica is made with a stunning synthetic sapphire heart that measures at just under 30 carats – and hangs from a chain of glittering CZ diamonds. All that bling is sure to make you feel like the queen of the world…or at the very least, you can pretend you’re part of one of the most infamous romances in current cinema!

Celine Dior wore the Titanic necklace when she performed the film’s theme song, “My Heart Will Go On”, at the 1998 Academy Awards ceremony.  This necklace, used during filming, was made from a blue CZ – just like our replica – but jewelry company Asprey & Garrard set it in white gold. The cost? A whopping $10,000…imagine how much it would have been worth if it were real! Luckily you don’t have to travel to the depths of ocean to find this gem – just shop a faux version from Emitations.com. If you love the Titanic necklace, you should read on to discover the eerie history that ignited the story of tragic star-crossed lovers aboard an ill-fated ship…

The Heart of the Ocean Titanic necklace has two inspirations, and both are equally dramatic. In the film, the ocean blue heart was said to have been fashioned from a legendary blue diamond that originally belonged to French royalty. This fictional story parallels the real life story of the infamously Hope Diamond! The Hope Diamond was never actually on Titanic, but both the diamond and the ship were notoriously unlucky. The doomed diamond and supposedly unsinkable steamer ship seem destined to be associated with one another! If prefer the look of that necklace more than the Titanic necklace, you may enjoy our Royal Replica Wish Diamond Necklace, made with gleaming clear and sky blue CZ stones.

The other real life inspiration for the Titanic heart necklace is the story that likely prompted both the 1943 and 1997 versions of the film. When Titanic sailed, two lovers were on board, supposedly to elope in the new world. 39 year old Samuel Morley boarded the ship as a married man, but left his wife and children behind in favor of 19 year old Kate Florence Phillips. He gave Kate a sapphire and diamond necklace as a symbol of his love, and she managed to hang on to it through the ship’s sinking and her eventual lifeboat rescue. Since only women and children were allowed on the majority of the lifeboats, Samuel tragically did not survive the shipwreck. All Kate had left to remember him by was the sapphire necklace…and the daughter that they conceived on Titanic, just prior to the disaster.

This sapphire necklace has been on display as part of many Titanic exhibits, and has an appropriate (and familiar!) name: “The Love of the Sea“. The necklace has a much more simple design than the “Heart of the Ocean” necklace – an emerald cut sapphire is set within a border of diamonds, which hangs on a long bale from a traditional chain. If you prefer the look of that necklace to the Titanic necklace, you may enjoy one of our synthetic sapphire or blue CZ antique style pendants.
